The first iteration of the Bang Bang idea came in 2012 when my friend, Andrew Steingold, asked me to participate in his call and response project ‘100 Creative Responses’.

I’ve always been interested in the drum as an art object. I designed and made this three-tier drum in answer to an ambient recording made by Andy and sent out to me on vinyl. The drum can be played as one piece or folded out into three individual toms. The project led me to think about other possibilities within sound making that are outside of convention, that steer more towards DIY aesthetics.
